Knit or sterilize?

Not all purebred Bengal cats and cats are suitable for further breeding. And we are not even talking about obvious defects in the exterior or problematic nature. In order not to spoil the breed, breeders allow only animals that perfectly meet the standard and have a promising appearance to breed. Uncontrolled reproduction over several generations can disrupt the intent of the creators of the species, degrade the type. For this reason, most often one of the conditions for the purchase of Bengal babies is their mandatory sterilization on time, so not all can breed Bengal cats. Sterilization is useful for the animal, not suitable for pedigree work, and for the owner, and in general for the breed. Unsterilized animals should mate regularly. Otherwise, troubles and aggressive behavior caused by instincts cannot be corrected – it is necessary to eliminate the cause itself.

It is irresponsible that the cat should be allowed to give birth to a little “for health”, and that the cat, after castration, turns into an amorphous creature. The behavior of the animal after sterilization and castration changes in a positive direction.

How Bengalians mate: mate selection, mating technique
Bengal cat – breed for breeding is quite complicated. The species was formed by specialists for many years – certain genes were fixed, others were eliminated. A competent selection of partners requires extensive knowledge, experience, understanding of what an ideal Bengal cat should be and what genes are responsible for this. And if the owner of a Bengal cat is not a professional breeder, it’s best to contact the kennel or club where the pet was bought for advice on choosing a groom. The standard ad “looking for a Bengal cat for a cat” may be the wrong step. The choice of a pair depends on several important parameters, and the color and type of tabby are not the most important here. You need to look for knitting not only an outwardly beautiful, affectionate, healthy partner, but also corresponding to the standard. Even not too noticeable shortcomings – pale spots, small vertical stripes, shortish paws, a light body – indicate that the cat carries imperfect genes, and the litter from it can even further stand up from the standard.

Bengal cat mating

Features mating Bengal cats
Now professionals are allowed to mate bengals exclusively inside the breed. The appearance of mestizos, for example, which has become fashionable for mating British, Scottish cats with Bengal cats, is not welcome. Of course, no one can forbid the owner to cross his pet with another breed, but offspring will not be considered Bengalis. So the official felinology answers categorically no to the question that arises on the network whether it is possible to knit a Scottish cat with a bengal (or a bengal with a Scottish, British).

The only exception is the permission to mate Bengal cats with their ancestors – wild Asian leopard cats in order to refresh genes, introduce interesting new qualities or strengthen existing ones. Such work is possible in large specialized nurseries – in private, few can find a wild animal for mating.

How does the mating go?
The mating season should be planned on the territory of the cat – the most natural option, as the male feels more confident in his house. The cat is left with the groom for several days – it is desirable that the mating act is repeated. How many days the mating will last depends on the animals themselves. Sometimes they get used to it for several days, get to know each other, and sometimes the process takes place immediately, and this is also correct. One of the signs of successful mating is a noticeable change in the behavior of the female – she calms down, stops rubbing, meow. With confidence in the success of the case, ultrasound can tell in two weeks. Bengal kittens born are the property of the owner of the female, and the owners of the cat that was crossed with her receive either payment or a “support” kitten. If it turned out that the cat has not become pregnant, the mating is repeated in the next cycle of its readiness (usually with the same cat the bunch is already free).

Thinking about the continuation of the feline, the owners should check the pedigree of their pet and partner – titled purebred parents, the presence of all documents and vaccinations are very desirable. It is worth asking about the type and fate of previous litters – older children from a parent or parent, then the owner will have more confidence in the cleanliness of offspring without genetic problems.
