An allergy to Bengal cats: the cause of the appearance and how it manifests itself

Professional felinologists will always tell anyone who wants to get a pet of an exotic, expensive Bengal breed, first you need to make sure that the household is not allergic to animals. All kinds of warm-blooded creatures can cause negative reactions – Bengalis are no exception. All breeds of cats, even hairless, are potentially allergenic, that is, there is no question of such a thing as a hypoallergenic cat. But the degree of danger, that is, the quantity and quality ratio of stimuli emanating from different species, varies. And here the Bengalis really have some advantages, although the answer to the question whether there is an allergy to Bengal cats is always in the affirmative.

What is the source of allergens
Alien to humans feline proteins, and there are more than 10 species, a priori not hypoallergenic. They are contained in dandruff and lubricant secreted by the secrets of the glands, in the saliva, urine of the animal. The length of the coat is only of some importance – not the pile itself causes rejection.
The main, but not the only culprit in tears and sneezing is the enzyme Fel d1 (glycoprotein, Felis domesticus allergen 1). Second in the anti-irritant rating are epidermal particles that concentrate in dead skin cells, that is, in animal dander. From here comes such a common concept as an allergy to wool. Microscopic dimensions allow particles to be in the air for a long time, and it is easy to penetrate the respiratory tract and the smallest bronchi. Moreover, they persist for a long time – over two years, showing up even where the animal does not live.

Allergy to Bengal Cats

How is the incompatibility of man and cat
Once in a healthy human body, Fel D1 will not cause any reaction. But the immune system of an allergic person will react differently. Upon contact with the stimulus, it begins to communicate information to all cells. As soon as the cat’s proteins get there again, the body will be ready to tear them away by all means in order to quickly lead the “enemy” out of its borders. So there are allergy symptoms – the most common, most visible, include:

– shortness of breath leading to coughing, wheezing, even dangerous swelling;

– irritation of the mucous membranes of the eyes – lacrimation and redness, called allergic conjunctivitis;

– a reddish rash on the skin, similar to hives, accompanied by itching;

– runny or stuffy nose;

– sneezing.

Allergens of animals, including Bengal cats, are especially dangerous for those suffering from weak lungs – for example, bronchial asthma.
