Bengal cat health: typical breed diseases, disease prevention
Not all owners have to deal with the situation that a Bengal cat is often sick for a long time. Most of the pets of this elite breed, who visited the veterinarian on time for the necessary vaccinations, live a long and happy life. Nevertheless, it is better to know in advance about what health problems may arise in order to recognize the disease in a timely manner, in the early stages, without allowing it to grow to the size of a catastrophe that threatens the life of a pet.
On the general health status of Bengalis
I immediately want to debunk the widespread myth that purebred representatives of domestic cats are characterized by very weak immunity, that they often get sick, dying from problems, who are not threatening anything with street and outbred animals. On the contrary, breeders in the selection take healthy, that is, strong, hardy, not burdened by poor heredity and genetic anomalies of individuals. So the proverb “heals like a cat” extends to the Bengal purebred breed. But there is another factor: because of the small population of this particular type of cats, breeding is problematic. Often closely related breeding is practiced, which is really fraught with a deterioration in the health of the offspring. In addition, the introduction of new genes into pure breed is often used in breeding. Sometimes this negatively affects the general health background, especially when an illiterate or irresponsible breeder takes care of the matter. Therefore, when planning to purchase an expensive kitten, it is better to contact large nurseries, where manufacturers are constantly updated and do not offer dubious suitors to bengals. Kittens from institutions with experience and established reputation are usually strong, as their ancestor is a hardy wild Bengal cat.

Symptoms of ailments of Bengal cats
Each specific disease has its own signs and symptoms, but a number of factors demonstrating the onset of the disease are common, namely:
– vomiting and / or loose stools in a cat occurred more than two times in one day;
– more than two days in a row there is no chair, and then the cat goes to the toilet with blood;
– complaints during urination;
– poor appetite, and even more so a complete rejection of food;
– the cat eats well, but has become thin;
– sour eyes, copious discharge of mucus from the nose;
– spotting from the loop of a cat or cat pooping with blood;
– plaque in the ears became black;
– an unhealthy color in the mucous membranes, the appearance of ulcers on them;
– compacted neoplasms on the skin and / or under it.
Together with the unusual behavior of a Bengal cat (anxiety, aggression, or, on the contrary, lethargy to apathy, constant drowsiness), any of the listed symptoms is a good reason to call a veterinarian, to be examined. The likelihood that the pet is seriously ill is high.
The main ailments of Bengal cats
The weakest place in the body of bengals is the gastrointestinal tract – such was the genetics of this breed. According to statistics, almost every representative of a Bengal breed suffered such problems at least a couple of times in his life. More often than other manifestations, Bengal cats and cats experience digestive upset due to food poisoning, change of feed. Having a dear pet of a Bengal breed, to put it mildly, it is unreasonable to feed the animal cheap food from supermarkets, which experts rightly dubbed cat poison. In addition, indigestion in a sensitive stomach leads to inflammatory bowel diseases, diarrhea appears, blood in the stool, and the body temperature of a Bengal cat rises.
